Brand Value or Best value ?

These are two different mindsets. for example, the brand value of the Apple iPhone is much more than the Samsung Top range set, however, Samsung carries more value for money than its counterpart Apple.

There are scenarios where brand value does not matter! For example, while buying a single tub or twin tub washing machine. A middle-class family would either place a washing machine in their washroom or at the back of their home. Most of the time it is being used by the maid. So brand value does not really matter here. The most important factors that matter in this scenario are the value of money, durability, after-sales services, etc.

Technical Features: Most of the time this factor is ignored by many of the customers. The customer is either influenced by past experience, salesman’s pitch, price, or advertisements. Almost all products are Technically the same, by that I mean the main components they are made up of. The customer needs to probe a little bit about the technical features of the product and compare at least 2-3 brands for a similar product.

Warranty: Almost all brands offer a similar level of warranty period and services. They cover that by their local presence. Some of the products are imported by private importers and they do not offer a local warranty. These products are less expensive than the products with a warranty.

Price: This is certainly the most important factor, obviously there are no free lunches in the world.  for example, home delivery price is a bit expensive than collect from store price, etc.

How to select the right AC for your home.

The selection of AC for a room is not an easy task. Common myths while buying AC is “ batchoon ka kamray main lagana hai, 1 ton da dain” or “akalay ammi ka kamray main zarurak hai“…Thats not workable.

The following factors need to consider while selecting.

  • Size of the room, bigger room obviously needs bigger capacity AC.
  • Check if the room is exposed to the sun directly – If not, that’s good news!!
  • Normally 1 ton is good for a 125-150 square feet size room, provided it is not exposed to the sun directly. A small office (even less than 100 square feet ) with exposure to the sun needs 1.5 ton AC. 1.5 ton for Approx 180-200 Square feet of room.
  • Consider weather temperature of your city – The compressors categories are T1, T2, T3. T3 for the very warm climate.
  • Inverter or Non-Inverter – Not many companies publishes data about how many units of electricity are consumed by the inverter than the non-inverter for the same size if run for the same amount of time. So personal experiences are the best to judge. The inverter is approx 25% Expensive than non-inverter to buy but the running cost is less than the non-inverter.
  • The efficiency rating of the AC is also important to note, higher the better.
  • There are other factors like wifi, design, colors, etc that depend on individual budget and choices.

Kitchen Appliances – Market

Many customers ask many questions while buying kitchen appliances. I tried to answer a few here.

Brand- Market is generally, unofficially, categorized into three categories. Top Tier, Middle Tier, Chines brand.

Although many of the top tiers are also made in China but the quality of their products is certainly the best. A good example is Apple iPhone, its made in China but the most expensive phone in the world.

Some of the top tier brands in Kitchen Appliances are – Panasonic, Moulinex, Braun, Tefal, Russel Hub, Philips etc.

Middle Tier – These are Black+Decker, Kenwood, Alpina, Sinbo etc

Made in China brands are – West Point, Anex, Gaba National,  Super National, Bingo etc.

The top-tier brand items, sell themselves. These are the most expensive in the market but customers know that they will work for a longer time and would not need to be covered by the warranty. Customers have good experience with these brands for decades.

The middle-tier brands are somehow struggling to make room for themselves in the market. They are made in china but their name makes them sell.

The made in China brands sell because of their prices.
